Know-how and expertise

SPAXS aims to create shareholder value by leveraging its promoters’ expertise and experience to meet market needs that are currently only partially satisfied and by taking full advantage of the SPACs’ unique characteristics as investment tools.
SPAXS’ promoters will contribute their skills and experience to the company, taking an active role in its management. Their track record suggests that they will be able to attract top talent:

Corrado Passera

Born in Como in 1954, Corrado was awarded a Degree in Economics and Business Management from Bocconi University, Milan, in 1977. Between 1978 and 1980 he attended the Wharton School in Philadelphia where he received his Master’s Degree in Business Administration.

His professional career began in 1980 when he joined the McKinsey &CO Consulting company, where he focused on the restructuring and revitalization of banking, insurance and service companies, both in Italy and abroad. In 1985 Corrado joined CIR, and in 1988 was appointed General Manager. In 1992 he became co-CEO of the Olivetti Group, which over that period underwent a transformation from being a traditional IT company to an ICT company (Omnitel, Infostrada). In 1996 he was appointed CEO of Banco Ambroveneto, which he managed until the merger with Cariplo. In 1998, Corrado was named CEO of Poste Italiane, Italy’s national postal agency, and was in charge of reorganizing the postal service and transforming the company into one of Italy’s leading financial services operators (Banco Posta, Poste Vita). In 2002 Corrado moved back to the banking sector as General Manager and CEO of IntesaBCI, the banking group originating from the merger between Banca Intesa and Banca Commerciale Italiana. In the summer of 2006, he led the merger between Banca Intesa and San Paolo IMI, which resulted in the creation of Intesa San Paolo Group, where he took the role of Managing Director and CEO.

In November 2011, he agreed to join Mr. Mario Monti’s technocratic Government as Minister of Economic Development, Infrastructures and Transportation. His mandate as Minister ended in 2013 at the end of the legislature.

He dedicated the following year to the creation of Italia Unica, a think tank of experts in the main fields of economic and social life, whose main objective is the development of a major project to relaunch the country, which is summarized in the successful book “IO SIAMO” (editor: Rizzoli). From June 2015, he committed to a project for the further re-launch of Milan in view of the local elections. Despite contributing to the electoral campaign for the city council, he decided not to engage in local elections to become Mayor. In 2016 he published his second book “Ricomincio da 5”.

Corrado is the Founder and key Sponsors of SPAXS SpA, of which he is also Executive Chairman. The 600 million euro raised, which makes SPAXS one of the largest spac in Europe, is aimed at creating a highly innovative bank dedicated to SMEs with potential and to the corporate NPL sector. The bank will also serve Households and businesses through a digital platform with the latest technology. Corrado will be CEO of the new bank.

He has served on the boards of directors of other listed companies (including Finmeccanica and Credit Agricole in Paris) as well as Italian and international non-profit institutions (including Università Bocconi, Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa, Fondazione Teatro alla Scala, Fondazione Cini, the International Business Council of the World Economic Forum and the International Institute of Finance in Washington).

In 2010 he set up Encyclomedia Publishers to complete and exploit an editorial project shared for over twenty years with Umberto Eco that gave birth to the first high quality “History of European Civilization” designed for new digital media.

In 2006 he was awarded by the President of the Republic the Order of Merit for Labour. He is married with Giovanna and has five children, Sofia, Luigi, Luce, Giovanni ed Eugenia.
